Deb Murphree...the Pianist/Hymn Playing Contests/Recitals, etc...

For many years, when I was a young child, my mother encouraged me to take piano lessons, and enter contests. She was always proud of me being able to play music by ear, and also at church for my father, during his ministry. I am enclosing several different pictures, of my contests in Big Stone Gap, and also Manassas, and other places. I hope you enjoy them LOL

Deb, I'm so proud of you... I won a high-school diploma in piano in 1960 by entering a competitions in Pennington Gap, VA... I went to college intending on majoring in Piano. However, I had a horrible teacher that first year in piano. I switched to Voice ---and have never played the piano much since then, other than to play when I sang, or to play in church. Kinda sad, isn't it????

Thanks so much for sharing...

Hugs,
Betsy

my piano-playing sadly died as soon as it started. i felt 'forced' into it, and was rather slack. but i can play simple versions, and matthew has lessons. so hopefully, i can redeem myself from my son?lol! so proud of you both, ms. deb and ms. betsy!

Betsy...you had a long career in MUSIC...band, piano, etc. Music is one of the most important aspects of our lives, and I cherish anything that has to do with music and songs....no matter what instrument it may be. I play the flute, piano, organ, and some guitar. Guitar used to tear my fingers up when I was taking lessons. LOL..

Cherie...I felt forced to practice, and I HATED practicing, but my mother used to say, "practice makes perfect" lol...ever heard that phrase? I'm glad your son is taking lessons. I need to start back teaching my granddaughters. I started with my children years ago, but that died quickly. It's hard to take lessons from your own mother. LOL...Betsy would probably agree with me that it's hard for a teacher to teach their own child.
