Interesting turn of events in the news lately, concerning Coroner Billy Brown's case. Last week Billy was stripped of his coroner's position and was going to be taken off of the ballot so his name wouldn't appear as a candidate for Sheriff of Autauga County. WELL......It appears that Probate Judge Al Booth might have spoken too quickly concerning taking Billy off of the ballot!!
Don Fletcher, Prattville Progress staff writer wrote an interesting article that came out in today's paper.
"Probate Judge Al Booth, who also serves as the county's chief elections official, said this week that he spoke too hastily earlier when he announced that Brown's name would be removed from the November General Election ballot."
NOTICE WHAT PROBATE JUDGE AL BOOTH SAYS,
"I apparently misspoke," Booth said. "I should have said that, under the present circumstances, Billy Brown could not take office. He hasn't been sentenced, though, so I'm going to leave him on the ballot unless we turn something up that would preclude doing that."
ALSO NOTICE WHAT COUNTY CIRCUIT CLERK STATED FOR THE PAPER, AS WELL, CONCERNING 2 THINGS THAT COULD KEEP BILLY BROWN RUNNING AS A CANDIDATE AGAINST SHERIFF HERBIE JOHNSON....
"The judge (Montgomery County Circuit Judge Tracy McCooey) could set aside the jury's verdict, or the governor could pardon him," Moncrief said. "If either of those happens, he could still run for sheriff."
LET'S HOPE THAT JUDGE TRACY MCCOOEY LAYS ASIDE THE VERDICT. THERE ARE TOO MANY IFS, ANDS, OR BUTS CONCERNING THIS TRIAL THAT TOOK PLACE LAST WEEK. THE JURY MEMBERS DIDN'T TAKE NOTES. THEY COULDN'T GO OUTSIDE NEAR CLOSING TIME TO SMOKE, OR THE DOORS WOULD LOCK THEM OUT (THEY WERE TOLD THIS). THE SHERIFF TESTIFIED THAT HE HAD ALSO USED HIS OFFICE FOR PERSONAL GAIN (WHEN SHOWN THE PHOTOGRAPH OF COUNTY OWNED TRAILER ON SHERIFF'S PROPERTY WITH TWIGS AND BRANCHES). (ALSO PHOTOGRAPH SHOWN WITH SHERIFF RIDING ON 4-WHEELER IN THE 4TH OF JULY PARADE, WITH HIS SIGN ON THE FRONT OF 4-WHEELER, ALSO A COUNTY OWNED PIECE OF PROPERTY).
It just doesn't get better than this, folks. DOES IT!!!!

Why do you need to elect a coroner?
Or for that matter, a school superintendent?
Both should be professional positions, based on qualifications, not popularity.
I totally agree with you on this issue, Jay. I don't make the rules, though. I guess it's state and county law that has to be followed. Billy should remain on the ballot, though. I'm surprised that the probate judge admitted that he mis-spoke. How are things over your way? Hope all is well. (I still haven't flown yet! LOL)
