New Women's "Clothing Store" has City Officials in Uproar!

A new business has opened up in East Alabama, and it has a few city officials a little disturbed.  It appears that Kallis not only sells WOMEN'S CLOTHING, but also women's toys.

"According to city records, a business license was issued Sept. 16 for a women’s clothing store, doing business as “Kalli’s,” at 1639 So. College St. The issue isn’t Kalli’s selection of lingerie, costumes, hosiery, shoes and boots in the store’s main showroom. It’s the business’ assortment of sex toys, including vibrators, that are located in a restricted area of the store."

I know that some of the council members are upset about this store, but WHY?  I still don't  understand why this has to be such an issue.  I also noticed that the article did not have any women complaining about the items being sold.    (just men, lol).  What are your views on the sale of  these "questionable" toys?

I didn't read the article, but I'm thinkin' it may not be a question of their disapproval of selling the "toys" themselves, but that the sale of stuff like that is considered along the same lines as an adult book store and, therefore, you have to be zoned correctly, which usually means you're outta the general public's eye, lol

Yeah, Jackie..that's probably what it is LOL...I have never seen anything like that in an adult bookstore, but have heard about some things that go on in the back rooms of some of those bookstores LOL..

LOL Carey, you got that right! We ARE in the year 2009. Alabama just doesn't get it. This case reminds me of the case in another state where the justice of the peace wouldn't marry an interracial couple. Makes no sense. This is more along the lines of prejudice.

Well, I do think places that sell things like this NEED to be outta the general public's eye, especially the younger general public's eye. 2009 doesn't change the fact that adult stores' subject matter encompasses a lot of immoral behavior, e.g., pornography for one. Toys are in a different class as they themselves are not immoral, but their use may be outside the marriage situation, but that's just me, lol

The interracial marriage issue can be called nothing other than prejudice!

Well, the way I understand it, these toys ARE out of sight LOL...I haven't gone to check them out yet LOL..

I most definitely agree with you about the Interracial Marriage issue where the Justice of the Peace refused to marry the couple. THAT'S JUST DOWNRIGHT behind the times. We, in America, should do better than that. We, as CHRISTIANS, owe it to our fellow man to see past color. I know I do.

Sex toys? Christianity? Do they go together? I don't believe it has anything to do with the times we live in.Or maybe it has everything to do with the times we live in.
I do believe that the interracial couple being denied their right to be married was a time warp on the judges part.

It actually has to do with a dubious Alabama law. It seems a state representative from Madison County wished to prohibit completely nude dancing in the small town of Madison. He introduced a law to that effect, but copied it from one in Georgia that also prohibited the sale of sex toys.

This was never the state legislator's intent, but now it is law, and Troy King enforces it universally. Loretta Nall has done several columns about this.

So far, Pleasures has not relented and closed their business, but they have been told to do so by the state.
