LOSE YOUR PARENTAL RIGHTS IN ALABAMA?? You STILL May Pay Child Support!!

http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/09/alabama_supreme_court_parent_m.html   The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that parental obligations for Child Support do not automatically expire if parental rights do.  This is an INTERESTING ONE...  I will elaborate more on this post later on this evening.

This story at the Press Register has more details.

Does not make sense and does make sense. Logically, if one has no rights to the child, responsibilities end. However, the law does not plainly say that.

There are occasions too, when an adopted child can receive VA or Social Security benefits based on the natural parent receiving them

Walt, thanks for your comment. I appreciate hearing the views from all angles.

Betsy, read the link that Walt posted. It was more self explanatory.

Yet another reason people adopt internationally. All the rights in the USA go to the biological parents even when their rights have been terminated, lol. This new one does not make sense AT ALL! Because you know the first thing that will happen is that parent whose rights were terminated but still required to pay support will go to court and say if I have to pay, then I have a say!

In the cases where the adopted child receives benefits from the biological parents, that is in the case of an open adoption with the agreement of both the biological parent(s) and the adoptive parents and with a voluntary termination of parental rights of the biological parent(s).

I have to agree with everyone else this does NOT make any sense to me. Okay, state law says that no parent can keep a child from the noncustodial parent because of their inability to pay child support...Now the SC is saying you will pay child support even if you are not entitled to see your child. This to me, is a bunch of BS and I will be voicing my opinion on it. Don't count on getting my vote for a seat on the Supreme Court with this kind of bogus law. To take away a parents rights...is what it is and they cannot change that. I think this will be an issue for the U.S. Supreme Court. They want these parents to still pay support I understand the children need this, however, these parents should still be entitled to have a say in their childs upbringing if they are going to be made to continue paying child support. Okay SC you can't have your cake and eat it too. The more you change things the more you will forget and then you start to contradict what you have already said. Think before you speak and never open mouth and insert foot...

Jackie, thank you for your prospective as an adoptive parent of someone out of the U.S. it helps us to see all views from every angle on this issue.

Brandy, I know that you have agonized over this issue many times, of parental rights. Your nephew was taken from your sister and placed with his father. Wasn't your sister ordered to pay child support, even though her visits are stifled and the father of your nephew has not obeyed the court order of visitation privileges? Please elaborate on this so others know what your anger is about. You have every right to be angry and I'm right there with you on NO VOTES FOR ANY ONE that is already in the Alabama Supreme Court. My votes will be going to NEW and FRESH faces.
