YAHOO! Reports Alabama Based Colonial Banks Close

Colonial Bank had 346 branches in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Nevada and Georgia. FDIC took over and said that the branches will re-open on Saturday. North Carolina's "BB&T" purchased the branches' assets.

In 2009, 77 federally insured banks have closed.

Has anyone noticed how many Alabama-based companies have been consumed by North Carolina-based ones? It's almost too strange to really be a coincidence.

Hey Nic! You might be right there. Could you possibly do a little research for me on that, and post to that effect? It would be interesting to see how many...on an average.

Angyl, my daughter used to bank with them quite a while back. It's a scary proposition when your bank folds. I bank with Wachovia, and they were taken over by Wells Fargo. I still love banking there. I also bank at Bank Trust. (formerly Citizens Bank, and then People Bank and Trust). I guess with a bank that has a name like "TRUST" in it, you gotta trust them, huh! LOL... (I don't believe in putting all your eggs in one basket).
